Since launching in 2024, New Balance’s Reconsidered program has recirculated more than 100,000 pairs of shoes, giving perfectly wearable sneakers a second life. There are two ways to participate: shop the Reconsidered collection, which features like-new sneakers, Factory Seconds with minor cosmetic imperfections, and customer returns that can’t be sold as brand new, or trade in your own pair. Simply bring your like-new New Balance sneakers to the Aventura Mall store, where the staff will inspect them for eligibility. If approved, your shoes are assigned a trade-in value, and you’ll receive a voucher to use in-store or online.

Closet Karma
One of Miami’s most beloved secondhand shops, Dragonfly Thrift Boutique is changing lives through retail. Dragonfly is part of the Ladies Empowerment and Action Program (LEAP), a nonprofit that helps women succeed after incarceration. The organization offers several programs designed to help women rebuild their lives, from housing assistance to in-prison education; it even provides participants with their first job after prison through its employment training program. All proceeds from Dragonfly benefit LEAP, and the luxury finds are fabulous, from lightly worn Manolo Blahniks to summer-ready Lilly Pulitzer dresses.
Smooth Sailing
When Angela Abshier realized how much waste was being created by discarded superyacht sails, she sprang into action. The longtime fashion entrepreneur and novice sailor transformed reclaimed sails into handbags, backpacks, and accessories while also using the material to create emergency shelters for humanitarian relief efforts. Recently, LVMH enlisted the company to repurpose sails from the Louis Vuitton Cup, and Abshier collaborated with Jaden Smith’s Harper Collective on a limited-edition collection.
