Swanky, nostalgic, and already filled with familiar faces, Slim’s is the latest concept from James Beard Award–winning restaurateur Stephen Starr. The 183-seat newcomer brings a glamorous reimagining of the classic steak house inspired by Hollywood’s golden age.

Designed by Gachot, Slim’s pairs plush pink banquettes, moody lighting, marble checkerboard floors, and Art Deco murals by illustrator Christoph Niemann to create a setting that is modern and timeless at once. Located on the first floor of Bal Harbour Shops, it’s a stylish spot to indulge in prime steaks and potent martinis.

The menu delivers all the bells and whistles diners have come to expect from Starr. Begin with the delightfully flaky buttermilk biscuits or the joyful pigs in a blanket, featuring kosher hot dogs wrapped in puff pastry with deli mustard, a throwback bite that instantly channels childhood. The whimsical crab-stuffed avocado is cleverly fashioned to resemble a whole avocado while hiding crab inside an edible shell.

Seafood entrées are spectacular, particularly the Dover sole bathed in lemon, capers, and brown butter, and the grilled branzino paired with Tuscan kale, gigante beans, and tomato vinaigrette. Of course, beef is the star attraction—from an elegant 8-ounce filet mignon to a hulking 32-ounce porterhouse for serious carnivores. A nod to Starr’s hometown is the decadent $100 Philly cheesesteak, layered with Wagyu beef, black truffle, foie gras, fried onions, and melted American cheese on a freshly baked sesame roll. Add classic sides like creamed spinach, mac and cheese, and stuffed hash browns, and wash it all down with a Sinatra Martini topped with an oyster and caviar. Finally, the bright-pink Champagne cake is a must-order dessert, as much for your Instagram feed as your sweet tooth.
