Mom to Amber, 17

Occupation: Senior Vice President of Market America, Inc. and Creative Director of Motives Cosmetics by Loren Ridinger and Cellular Laboratories by Loren Ridinger.

How they make it fun: Amber and I love to travel together and experience new and interesting cultures. We also like doing the normal mother-daughter activities—eating out, shopping and just hanging out at home and talking.

Pushover or a disciplinarian? A disciplinarian. People would think it’s my husband, JR, because when it comes to Amber I can be a sucker—but the most important thing to me is Amber’s safety, so I will definitely jump in to make sure that she is never put in jeopardy.

What do you do for yourself during “me time” to ensure you stay sane and keep yourself looking and feeling good? Well, running a business 24/7 does not leave a ton of “me time,” but when possible I always want to be with Amber as she is the only thing that can brighten my day when things are not going optimally. Also, I love to read and research. I do like to exercise, especially bicycling. I also enjoy taking long walks by myself. Finally, Tracie Martyn does my facials, a luxury for me.

Why do you think it’s important that, as a mother, you continue to pursue your personal interests and activities? I think Amber has to see that life is what you make of it. My work ethic sets the perfect example for my daughter. JR and I built our business from nothing on the premise of helping others. Nothing comes for free and she has already demonstrated to me she understands that, as she works incredibly hard at everything she does.

What do you think is the most important quality you can instill in your daughter? Confidence. It’s everything. My formula in life is confidence+love=success, whatever that success may be for each person who follows the formula.

From the mouths of babes: When Amber was around 2 years old she told me I “had the cutest fattest little belly I have ever seen.” She was so young she didn’t know any other way to tell me other than being honest. And it was definitely a wake-up call to me!
